voice lab dance edition
17.12.2021 - 20:00 Uhr Exploring the combination of voice and body movement Weird stuff for voice, body movement and dance, experimental and non-experimental singing, video. Works and performance by Frauke Aulbert, with ❤ hommages to Meredith Monk and maybe Nina Hagen. Working with the voice means working with and on the human body in the first place: Via specialized motion sequences specific sounds are produced. However, the act of singing is not exhausted by this: Next to the production of sound an aspect of personification, a performative gesture, a hint of figurativeness is always part of the going-on. This often unused “byproduct” of singing is continuously accompanying the work of singers, and is hiding performative potential at the same time. This project is the presentation of a research in progress, supported by Neustart Kultur Musikfonds, from which Aulbert was granted a stipend for her work on Voice and Movement, and the DfdK Hamburg. The singer and performer Frauke Aulbert is mainly known for her work as an excellent and excessive vocalist. Nevertheless body movement, presence and acting have always been just the same expression tools for her, undetachable from the voice. She has been working as a professional acrobat and juggler and trained in classical Indian dance (odissi), as well as many different other body work forms. For this project she puts the body work first - the voice follows. She picks up the topic from diverse points of views, internet, traditional, personal, and creates her own pieces, which occaisonally contain a certain wink of eye as a characteristical expression.
