Herzliche Einladung zu meinem zehnten Geburtstag.  Mittlerweile vergesse ich manchmal, dass ich woanders herkomme. So sind zehn Jahre vergangen: neue Umgebung, neue Sprache, neue Regeln, neue Menschen, neue Beziehungen, neue Identität und neues zu Hause.

Die Ausstellung „Der zehnte Geburtstag” ist der Rückblick auf diese zehn Jahre – auf das Ankommen, auf Zugehörigkeit zur Gesellschaft, auf die Frage, was Zuhause eigentlich bedeutet, und auf euch, die mich dabei gehalten haben. Es ist ein sehr persönlicher Einblick – entstanden aus Frustration,Wut und die Angst vor der Zukunft aber auch zu einem großen Teil aus Dankbarkeit.  

Genau deshalb möchte ich diesen Moment mit euch feiern. Ich lade euch herzlich zum gemeinsamen Essen am Eröffnungsabend ein.

In 1985 Mouton challenged the male Rallye World and won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb against all odds. Never before had a woman competed in the prestigious Colorado race to the top of the 4000 m mountain until the previous year when Michéle took on the „Race to the Clouds“ for the first time. Impressed and probably intimidated by the success of her 1984 attempt the judges kept giving her ridiculous fines to show Mouton her place. Despite all of these obstacles the French Rallye hero set a new record that year and reached the top in

11 minutes 25 seconds and 39 milliseconds, gaining the title „King of the Hill“. 

In our exhibition that mountain represents the pile of reemerging sexist, populist and conservative beliefs in politics and society as a whole. The misogynistic blabber of the so called manosphere, which poisons the minds of especially young males on the internet. But also the self-proclaimed “politicians” who see these old dynamics becoming fashionable again as a chance to proliferate themselves and make a quick buck. The recent election in Sachsen-Anhalt is just one sad example for institutionalized hate against women right here on our doorstep.

We want to take away the male coded subjects of Racing, Cars and competition and as her fans let Michéle Mouton drown the populist misogynistic rhetoric in Diesel fumes

and the roaring of her Audi Quattro S1 engine. We invite you to put the pedal to the metal and enjoy the show!

Revealing what might have happened historically at Wendenstraße 45, the work uses sound and visual experimentation to explore what may once have been present, what has disappeared, and what remains as an impression. Rather than reconstructing a definitive story, it opens a space for speculation, memory, and perception.
